WILDEN WELSH SHEEPDOGS

Welsh Sheepdogs at Wilden

We run Welsh Sheepdogs at Wilden. When we started keeping dogs the Welsh Sheepdog was not a recognised 'breed', but we'd noticed that the working dogs in Mid Wales were active and independent, capable of working large areas of difficult ground with hidden dips and tall vegetation. We set out to find pups from this area. Our first two were brother and sister, a black and white dog we called Yogi and a red bitch, Foxy, who came from Llanarth in 1994.

Since then we have acquired two registered Welsh Sheepdog bitches, both of which are approved for breeding. We prefer smooth coated dogs because our soil is sticky silty loam and smoothies keep cleaner than rougher coated dogs.

GORSLAS PENGWYN black/white

Sire: Pantyrodyn Gromit

Dam: Gorslas Zigzag

Pen is a very active and powerful worker with a big bark who can cover a lot of ground on her own. She excels at shifting big mobs of sheep but will work cattle, horses and pigs with equal enthusiasm. She is 'supercharged' and will go all day without tiring.

MILWYN HEINI red/white

Sire: Milwyn Llew

Dam: Cwmhenog Gwen

Heini is a real pleasure to work with. She has an innate intelligence, working with little command she is adept with cattle and sheep. She is generally a calm, quiet worker who will back penned sheep if required.

We occasionally have well-bred registered pups for sale. Welsh sheepdogs need activity and mental challenge and so we will only sell to homes that can provide young dogs with the stimulation they will need to develop into healthy, happy adults.
